I moved to Alaska 25 years ago, and I am still in awe of how beautiful my surroundings are. Living in the Pacific Northwest has taught me to see color through the clouds. Although it’s often gray outside in the fall, the orange and gold muskeg can be unbelievably vibrant; contrasts are intensified by clouds and mist. I love being reminded of spring and summer's green when I'm shoveling snow off of my front porch in the winter, and there's nothing more magical than walking through a fresh sparkling snowfall in the sunshine.
Here are a few recent oil paintings inspired by living in Alaska.
